My passion is taking portraits and working with all different age kids is my absolute favorite of all! Every fall, many of my late afternoons are spent with seniors who are graduating in the spring. The teenage years can often be a challenging time for parents and the kids alike but when I spend an hour with these kids, as a parent/photographer, the energy is always positive and we always have a good time. There is rarely any sign of awkwardness and I feel like they trust me enough to open up and show me something about themselves. They seem to really appreciate the time in front of the camera and can be playful yet introspective. In high school, there is so much focus on academics, sports and extra-curricular activities that I think some time where they can just think about themselves is a welcome relief. I really treasure these one-on-one photo sessions with these kids and appreciate being able to capture this transitional, sometimes confusing, time in their lives.
This year our middle child, Nikki, is one of those graduating and I am filled with the bitter sweet excitement of watching her leave the nest and spread her wings. I am grateful for all of the photographs I have of her to help remember this time in her life!
Congratulations to this year's graduating seniors!
