I love these photos taken from engaged couples visiting Aspen this winter. Most couples envision flowers and a verdant setting but winter can be very romantic and picturesque. There is nothing more magical than snowflakes in the air on a crisp cold day in winter! One of the couples was from Texas and were enchanted with the idea of a sleigh ride to the Pine Creek Cookhouse for lunch. It was a little bit colder than they were used to but snuggled under blankets and kept warm enough for some beautiful portraits in frigid temperatures. The cowboy driving the sleigh was generous enough to give us some time and posed in a few photos that help give a real feel for the wintery Colorado setting.
The other engaged couple are from Colorado and we took pictures under sunny skies. We have been lucky this winter in Aspen and there is plenty of fresh white snow to play in while taking photos! We all had a lot of fun as we trudged along in the snow looking for interesting backdrops. I would pose them lightly and then encouraged them to keep moving and play around with each other. This is what gives the portraits a natural and authentic feeling.
Whenever I take portraits I like to give a strong sense of place as I think that this will make the photos more meaningful to everybody in the future. They will always be reminded of spending time in beautiful Aspen, Colorado during the special time of their engagement!
